[NOW SHIPPING] Maryse Smith - Transience Posted 01 May 2025

Maryse spent some years in Vermont writing songs, now she does the same on Martha's Vineyard. Detailing the interpersonal relationships that define our lives in surprisingly straightforward ways, Maryse winds her words around common themes with just enough of a literate twist.

Today, her latest album, Transience, is released.

"This album was produced/recorded/mixed by my dear friend, Benny Yurco at his studio Little Jamaica Recordings over a few incredibly productive days in April of 2024 culminating in the full-totality eclipse. I was joined by 2 of my dear friends/musicians from the Vineyard, Nora Knight on drums & vocals & Stu Rodegast on Fender bass & vocals who helped to bring so much life & support to these songs."

[NOW SHIPPING] Lavender Blue - The In Between Posted 06 Mar 2025

Lavender Blue's latest album The In Between is out now on digital and cassette!

The record kicks off with “The Veil” and “Craggy”, both pieces that ruminate on the spaces between emotional and physical states, and question, is this all there is. Shifting into “Wishbone”, co produced by Mary Steinbrecher (BEX) we get a taste of fuzzed out emo against the backdrop of an angsty refrain. “Fill Me Up”, produced by Colin Miller (MJ Lenderman, ColinMiller) pulls inspiration from shoegaze and lo-fi recording styles contrasting the sweet intention of the lyrical content, a wish to love until the end of life.

This carries the listener onward to “Blue Indigo Road”, written on a long drive from Delaware to Asheville. “Blue Indigo Road” was originally inspired by the passing of Zuskin’s grandfather. The most straightforward mentions of life and death are in the final verse “we’re born and buried by the ones we love”. This makes way for the warbly tape effected “Scarlet Blood” produced alongside Landon George (MJ Lenderman, Indigo De Souza) that layers guitars, as the refrain repeats “what goes around comes back again” and culminates with a time bending sound scape amidst a pitched down voicemail.

“Vapor”, produced by longtime collaborator Mike H. Johnson is a dreamy escape from some of the heavier themes on the record, pulling in electronic drums, synths and videogame references. Johnson, also engineered and mixed the record. The heavy riffing “Rubberband” which Zuskin says was an experiment in song form draws on her more technical guitar playing and loops the angsty lyrical content back into the record before it culminates with the soft meditation of “Zoom In”, produced by Zack Kardon (Indigo De Souza). A last reminder to the listener to breathe in and breathe out.

The In Between is for those who find themselves peering at the weeds growing from the cracks in the sidewalk, analyzing their dreams, getting lost in the trees and craning their ears for the wind. Spanning genres, Lavender Blue can be found somewhere between alternative rock, folk, indie and americana. The record is meant to be a sonic journey. Keeping the listener engaged and guessing, and questioning, is this all there is? This in between?

Coming this March, our next release will be Lavender Blue's The In Between.

The music of Asheville NC based artist Lavender Blue, the moniker for Kayla Zuskin, is as soft as it is spiky. The Moniker stemmed from her own partial color blindness. Performing since 2017, her forthcoming LP, The In Between, floats somewhere between the nostalgia of 90's grunge, lilting folk, and imaginary sonic worlds, inspired by the concept of liminal space both physically and psychically.

We will be doing a limited run of normal-bias electric blue cassettes (/100), professionally duplicated at Duplication CA. Each tape comes with a digital download code, which for US and Canada based shipments, is printed on wildflower seed paper by Botanical Paperworks.

Today she releases the latest single from the album "Scarlet Blood", you can listen below.

"Scarlet Blood is inspired by a poem that I wrote after a nasty fall on my roller-skates. I came across the poem a month or so later and was thinking about the circular track I had initially wiped out on and how it mirrors the idea that people and their actions tend to be cyclical and patterned. This song was produced by Landon George, and we spent a lot of time together getting this to where you now hear it. The production was heavily inspired by Alex G and lo-fi recording styles. In addition to playing many of the instruments, Landon ran the whole piece through multiple cassette players at different rates and we pulled that in and out to give the piece its warbling effect." -Kayla

Christopher Icasiano is a Filipinx-American percussionist and composer from Redmond, WA. Based now in Seattle, he has been performing and touring professionally for over 15 years. His specialization in free-improvisation and experimental music combined with his vast experience with pop and rock have made him a highly sought after collaborator in all genres of music. Christopher currently tours with Fleet Foxes, Pure Bathing Culture, and as a solo artist & with his long-standing drum and saxophone duo Bad Luck.

"All of it, Derailed is the record I’ve been dreaming of making for a long time—solo acoustic improvised drums. I shied away from it because I think I was too afraid of making something so bold. I’m not afraid anymore."
